PEOPLE from across the region are being invited to put their best foot forward in a charity ramble.

Staff at Castle Eden Dene Nature Reserve have teamed up with East Durham Trust to organise the countryside walk.

Walkers will follow a route through some of the region's most beautiful countryside, between Castle Eden Dene and Wynyard Woodland Park.

Joe Davies, Natural England's community liaison officer at the Dene, said that following the popularity of the event last year it had been decided to stage the ramble again this year.

He said: "The walk covers 12 miles from start to finish and is an excellent opportunity to raise funds for local charities and good causes.

"Last year, those taking part in the event helped to raise more than £800 for Marie Curie Cancer Care."

The walk will take place on July 15, from 10am to 3.30pm, and Mr Davies said: "Whether you are an experienced walker or just an occasional stroller why not come and help Marie Curie Cancer Care or some other local good cause to raise some much-needed funds via sponsorship."

Those taking part have been asked to bring a light picnic to allow lunch to be taken overlooking one of the scenic sights on the way.

Anyone wishing to take part in the event is asked to call Mr Davies on 0191-518-2403 or 0191-5860004.
