A YOUNG designer from County Durham has won a scholarship to one of the world's most famous motoring cities.
Stephen Donald wants to be a car designer and has been accepted at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, this summer.
The 16-year-old, from Ferryhill, is looking for sponsorship to help pay fees and flights to the US city.
"Detroit is the centre of the world for car manufacturing.
"Within ten miles of where I'm going you've got Ford, General Motors and Chrysler,"
said Stephen.
"I've always wanted to go to the college in Detroit and I sent off for a prospectus.
"Details of the summer school just came through the door after that, so when I saw them I thought I'd apply, but I never thought I'd get in."
Stephen is studying for GCSE exams, including art and graphics, at Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College.
The school has already donated money towards his fees and is holding fundraising events to help. Stephen has also secured a week's work experience with designer Wayne Hemingway in London this summer.
"It's going to be a really busy summer for me but I'm going to learn a lot."
Stephen is looking for sponsorship and can be contacted through the school on 01740-651554.
