CRICKETING choristers yesterday donned their cassocks and pads to raise cash for a forthcoming tour.
Eighteen boys from the Chorister School, in Durham, held a sponsored cricket ball throw on the city's College Green - managing 274 throws before dropping the ball.
Durham Cathedral Choir, comprising 18 boys and eight men, is preparing for a tour to Paris, from June 16 to 23.
They will be singing in three of the most famous cathedrals in France - Notre Dame de Paris, Versailles and Chartres - as well as a number of smaller churches and a music festival.
The tour is being sponsored by Price Waterhouse Coopers and will be underwritten by the Durham Cathedral Choir Association, but the boys have also been raising money through concerts and an auction of promises.
School headteacher Ian Hawksby said: "They are a very dedicated bunch of boys and are putting a huge amount of effort into helping fund this tour, and having a lot of fun too."
