AN emergency exercise involving a simulated plane crash is to take place at a North-East airport later this year.

Durham Tees Valley Airport will hold the practice run to test procedures needed in the event of a major incident.

The exercise is a Civil Aviation Authority requirement that enables the airport to test its emergency plan.

Airport staff will be joined on the night by colleagues from the emergency services plus a number of volunteers.

The Airport's post-disaster management procedures will be tested as part of this exercise to assess how staff, travellers and any injured passengers would be dealt with in the event of a real emergency.

Durham Tees Valley Airport will continue to operate normally throughout the exercise and no passengers or airlines using the airport during this exercise should be affected.

The event takes place on Wednesday, November 21 between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
