At the start of the final league game of the 2007/08 TBL Division One Season, TU Lions were in pole position on 18pts. The final game took place between Hartlepool sides Heat and Hornets with Heat, in second place on 17pts preparing to lift the title should they beat their local neighbours.

It has all been a bizarre series of events that has witnessed the Christmas favourites, Ormesby Tigers' one handed grasp on the title swiftly removed by events off the court as much as on them. Lions will be happy to have consolidated second place when in reality, they were floundering, just over a month ago. Tigers will be disappointed with third place, especially considering they had beaten Lions twice this season.

As it happened Heat beat their rivals 108-77 at Manor College to an eruption of applause from the big crowd watching the game. Heat have by no means dominated the league, a league which on any given day any of the teams can beat another, with very few blow out results. In such a strong league, Hartlepool can take credit for holding their nerve and overcoming the pressure to pull off such an important win on the final game of the season.

In the County Cup, Richmond are celebrating having both their teams in the semi finals with Richmond A playing Heat B and Richmond B playing Easingwold. These games take place today at Eston Sports Academy. Meanwhile tomorrow Richmond Vikings Coach, Jaycie Hall has been asked to coach the Celebrity team against the Game Time Professionals. Jaycie is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the area and has done a great job in developing his teams.
