A CONCERT held in memory of a popular bandsman and councillor has raised hundreds of pounds for a mayor's charity appeal.
Ferryhill Town Band held the Joe Chaplin memorial concert, featuring guest soloist Joe Cook, at Mainsforth Welfare Hall last Saturday night.
Mr Chaplin, a coal board electrician, played tuba with the band, was secretary for 17 years and was a well known Ferryhill Town Councillor.
The concert raised £468.22 which was donated to Ferryhill Town Mayor Ken Campbell's fund in aid of the eCafe youth drop-in facility and the band itself.
Ferryhill Town Band was conducted by Sue Norris and included Mr Chaplin's son Brian and granddaughter Alex.
His widow Olive many other family and friends attended.
