A YOUNG hairdresser who launched her business with a charity pledge has found fundraising a snip.

Emma Tennant, who runs Bonito Pelo, in King Street, Ripon, has set aside a donation from every haircut during her first three months.

She presented £250 to the Melorheostosis Association UK group, based in Harrogate, to help research into finding a cure for the condition.

Melo is one of the world's rarest bone disorders, causing severe pain and deformity, but surgery does not help.

As well as the 100 sufferers worldwide, of whom fewer than 20 live in the UK, there could be a million more undiagnosed.

Emma, 21, who was born in Ripon, said: "When I left college, I knew I wanted my own salon, and with the help of various local businesses, family and friends I have been able to accomplish my dream at quite a young age. I was determined to mark the occasion with a charity pledge."

Martine Phipps, from Melo, said: "Every single penny we receive goes straight to our research team in Oxford."

The charity will hold a fundraising Thai beach party on Monday, April 12, at Harrogate Pavilions.

Tickets are £600 for a table of ten. Visit melo.eu.com or call 01423-709993.
