THE best seaside area in the North East has been revealed - and it's also top of the charts right across the UK.

Then in third place, beachgoers and tourists alike chose the North East again with Tynemouth in North Tyneside also scoring 84 percent.

Tynemouth missed out on second due to Dartmouth seeing an extra star added when it came to level of scenery offered.

The Which? summary of the top rated destination, Bamburgh said: “The former 2019 winner is back on top thanks to its five-star beach.

“This glorious stretch of golden sand runs for three miles, backed by a vast, tussock dune system and dominated by the epic Bamburgh castle.

“The beach is big enough that it’s rarely crowded, which may suit those looking to socially distance this summer.

“The bracing wind of the North Sea also helps to keep mass tourism at bay and the beach pristine and free of litter.

“This is the British seaside at its low-key best: nothing to do here except walk, run, let the dog off the lead, or sit behind a windbreak with a Thermos and watch the waves roll in.”

The results of the survey, which were first published last Summer, come as TripAdvisor reviews of Bamburgh have been rife with delight.

Hundreds have been sharing their reviews of the "wonderful" and "beautiful" attraction with the location receiving a brilliant five out of five stars.

One reviewer, Sarah Jayne Leam said: "What a stunningly clean beach! Even though there were dog walkers on the beach there was no mess at all!

"Residents take pride of their village and this village beach is a real area of outstanding natural beauty.

"Looking towards the Holy island or the Farne island or glancing behind and marvelling at Bamburgh castle this beach is an incredible example of how a beach should be, naturally stunning."

Another, known as Steve A, said: "Parked in a small beach car park (free) on the north edge of Bamburgh and walked south along the beach towards Seahouses.

"A wonderful long Sandy beach backed by Dunes and with the imposing Bamburgh castle in view.

"You can see why this beach is popular with people enjoying their walks. Would certainly return again if in Northumberland."
