THE gates to a medieval castle open to allow public access to its attractive Deer Park, to herald the New Year.

Visitors can take a leisurely stroll across the grounds of Raby Castle, near Staindrop, County Durham, home of both red and fallow deer, on Saturday, and help to raise funds for its chosen cause for 2022, the Brain Tumour Charity.

Volunteers from the Brain Tumour Charity will be on hand at the start of the outdoor walk and all those attending are asked to make a donation to aid its work.

The on-site Stables Café will be open on the day, serving takeaway food and a selection of hot and cold drinks for walkers during the event.

Younger visitors can also burn off energy on Raby’s woodland play area.

Four-legged friends can take part in a free New Year’s Day dog walk, starting at 11.30am in the Coach Yard.

Raby Park will be open on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

The Deer Park, play area and café will open daily from 10am in the New Year, and from Sunday January 2 normal admission prices will apply.
