A TEENAGER rescued by the Great North Air Ambulance has helped launch a supermarket's campaign to raise money for the charity.

Craig Skinner was taken to hospital in an air ambulance after falling from his bike in woodland, near Coxhoe, in April last year.

He suffered a complex fracture of his right thigh bone and now has to use a wheelchair.

Craig, who lives in Coxhoe, visited Asda Living, at the Arnison Centre, Durham City, to start the store's fundraising campaign.

Store Manager Jim Prescott said: "We were all very moved by Craig's story. It felt right that we do something to help the Great North Air Ambulance, so that other people can be helped.

"We hope to raise as much money as possible, and look forward to working with the Great North Air Ambulance to raise funds on an ongoing basis."

Craig was a runner-up in a recent local hero competition run by the Asda Living store.

He said: "I had a really great time at the store. I actually felt like a bit of a celebrity, as everyone seemed to know who I was."
