Two men have been arrested following an incident in which a woman was allegedly held against her will and threatened with a firearm.
The incident is believed to have happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in Darlington.
Armed officers attended two properties in the town later that day in connection with the incident – one in Station Road shortly after 7am, and one in Surtees Street at around 5.50pm.
A Durham Police spokeswoman said: "A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and kidnap, while a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap.
"They have both been released on police bail and enquiries are ongoing.
"The victim received minor injuries and is currently being supported by specially trained officers."
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101 quoting incident number 33 of August 18.
