A FORMER police officer has appeared in court charged with a series of sexual offences, including three counts of rape.

David Peter Waller, 33, is accused of sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, grooming and misconduct in a public office.

It is understood six separate complainants have come forward to make allegations against the former Cleveland Police officer.

Mr Waller, of Autumn Grove, Fairfield, Stockton, spoke only to confirm his name and address during a short hearing at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon where he made no plea.

District Judge Helen Cousins told him he will next appear at Teesside Crown Court on September 17.

He was granted conditional bail ahead of his next court date, which prevents him from having any unsupervised contact with a girl under the age of 16.

He also cannot contact any witnesses or complainants in the case.
