A TOWN centre street has been cordoned off by police after a man was assaulted in the early hours of the morning.
Police have taped off part of Gladstone Street in Darlington to carry out enquiries following the incident.
The man was taken to hospital after being assaulted following an alleged altercation with another man.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A spokesperson for Durham Police said: "A man has been taken to hospital after he was assaulted.
"The victim is believed to have been involved in an altercation with a man in the early hours of today (August 17) before the assault happened.
"His injuries are non-life-threatening.
"A cordon is in place in Gladstone Street while police carry out enquiries.
"Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 40 of today."
