A COMMUNITY arts centre is offering patrons the chance to pay what they think a show is worth at the end of the month.

The Witham, in Barnard Castle, will be holding their Pay What You Decide night for live music on August 31.

Residents and visitors alike are being invited to enjoy a festival gig with the group, Sheelanagig, from 8pm.

Guests will pay nothing until after the gig, when they will be invited to pay what they think it is worth.

The qunitet have brought their array of foot-stomping folk tunes to audiences across the globe for more than a decade with guitar, fiddle and double bass.

As it is a standing gig, the bar will remain open throughout.

Organisers are asking people to reserve a place instead of buying a ticket.

Tom Stanier from The Witham team said: "I saw Sheelanagig at Womad last year and no one was sitting down - everyone was dancing.

"We love that kind of energy here at The Witham and invite you to join us for a foot-stomping night of fantastic music."

Interim director Shelagh Avery added: "We are delighted to give everyone the chance to enjoy this lively, exciting evening of music at Barnard Castle’s arts centre. As part of our Investing in The Witham fundraising campaign, we are listening to our audience and would love to hear what you think of this opportunity to enjoy live music at whatever value you place on the experience."
