AN ordained priest is taking up a new role in the Church of England.
Edward Gorringe, 55, has been appointed as the new Diocesan Secretary for Durham and will take up his role on October 1.
He is currently the chief executive of a mental health charity in his native Northern Ireland.
A trained accountant, Mr Gorringe, who worked in finance and central and local government for a number of years, said: “My greatest hope for the role is that I will play a part in the diocese achieving the outcomes set out in its strategic vision
“If I can say that I have helped to transform communities, churches, and lives, then I will be very happy indeed.
“I am most looking forward to meeting new people in the diocese and getting to know and understand them.
“What motivates me is helping others to lead more satisfying and fulfilling lives.
“Sharing my faith is a large part of this, but I also seek to address injustice and inequality.”
Bishop of Durham, Paul Butler said: “I am delighted that Edward has agreed to join us.
“He brings a broad range of skills that are very applicable to the diocese, and I am looking forward to working with him in the coming years.”
Mr Gorringe, who is married to Jennifer and has two adult children, is a motorcycle enthusiast in his spare time.
