OUR pick of today's TV offerings.

Cuckoo (BBC One, 10.45pm)

IT'S been two and a half years since Cuckoo was recommissioned for two more series, and fans may have been wandering if it would ever land on our screens again.

Thankfully, the latest chapter of the popular sitcom is finally about to hatch tonight, and all the signs suggest it will be as good as ever.

For newcomers to Cuckoo, the series stars Taskmaster himself Greg Davies and Cold Feet's Helen Baxendale as married couple Ken and Lorna Thompson, the parents of Dylan (Tyger Drew-Honey) and Rachel (Esther Smith).

When the Bafta-nominated show started in 2012, it co-starred Andy Samberg as the titular 'cuckoo in the nest', but when he left to make Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it initially looked to be the end of the line for one of BBC Three's most successful sitcoms.

However, in stepped Twilight superstar Taylor Lautner to fill the Big-American-Name gap, playing Dale Jr, the son of Samberg's Dale Ashbrick.

In this series, we will see frustrated suburbanite Ken have a mid-life wobble as he struggles to settle back into his groove, post-paternity leave.

He's lost his power at work, and has seemingly been usurped by dastardly work rival, Jane (Jacqueline Boatswain).

During the next six episodes we will see if the patriarch can rediscover his mojo, for the sake of himself and his loveable family.

It all starts well tonight, as Ken is nominated for the prestigious Lichfield Lawyer of the Year award.

Unfortunately, Jane has been nominated too and he is convinced she is going to win.

Can Lorna think of a way to fix it so her husband comes out on top?

Meanwhile, Dale is still enjoying his adopted home town in Staffordshire and relationship bliss with Rachel, so contemplates taking the next step.

With Sid now in nursery, Dale needs to think of what he's going to do to support his own family.

However, Rachel is not ready to settle down. Still living with Lorna and Ken, tyrannised by her boss Nina (Juliet Cowan) and getting serious wanderlust, she wants to bust out of Lichfield and see the world.

As Dale gets more and more enthused about his new business, Rachel comes to the conclusion that she would actually rather he packed it all in.

Will our favourite couple get over this first relationship hump and figure out what their future should look like?

During the rest of this series, of which is being made available as a box set on BBC Three, Ken finds himself suspended from work and tries to engineer a way back in before Lorna finds out.

However, she is telling little white lies of her own and employs an underhand tactic to get Sid in to an exclusive local nursery.

Meanwhile, it's full steam ahead for Dale and Steve's new bar, but Rachel sees an opportunity to stop it from happening.

Later Ken complains about loud new neighbour Lloyd to the police, only to become close friends with him later.

There is also a pregnancy scare, the offer of dream job in Sierra Leone, a chance to meet Dylan's new (much older) girlfriend, and a very eventful launch night for the bar, All Steve's Pals.

It sounds like it could be all change for the clan during this fourth series of Cuckoo.

Some of the Thompson brood may decide to fly the nest, and feathers will fly, but with a fifth season on the horizon, this wildly offbeat but also comfortingly British sitcom is not ready to have its wings clipped just yet.
