FLORAL tributes laid by grieving relatives now mark the spot where a woman was killed on Friday evening.

This morning, police confirmed the arrest of a second person on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a mother who was attacked close to a play park on Oxford Road, in Hartlepool.

Yesterday, officers arrested a 30-year-old man, with both people currently in custody as investigations continue.

The victim was attacked and left with significant injuries at around 9pm on Friday evening.

Members of the public and the emergency services rushed to her aid but she died from her injuries just minutes later.

The Northern Echo:

Witnesses described hearing screams after seeing what appeared to be a man punching a woman.

One person who attempted to save the woman’s life said that she had been stabbed.

The victim has not yet been identified but it is believed that she is a mother from the local area who was in her late twenties.

Notes left with flowers at the scene by family and members of the grieving community pay tribute to "Kelly", saying she will be missed by her three children.

One note said: "Kelly, we haven't got the answers.

"We don't know why but what we do know is that you will be sadly missed by everyone around you, especially your three beautiful children.

"RIP in the hands of God and we promise you that we will make sure your three angels will never, ever forget you."

A police cordon and tent erected in the area following the woman's death has now been removed.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact Cleveland Police on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
