Our guide to all the soap action week beginning Saturday, August 4

EastEnders (BBC1)

Mick and Linda are off on a mini-break to Southend, but sadly it's not a second honeymoon or a way to cool down from the heatwave - instead, they just want an excuse to whisk Tina away before she finds out that sinister Stuart has been letting himself into the Vic.

It soon becomes clear it will take more than a couple of days beside the seaside to sort out the Carters' troubles, as when Tina returns to Walford, she's upset to learn the truth about what Stuart has been up to. But what is he planning to do next?

Dennis gets in over his head when he tries to impress a group of older boys by running an errand for them, but while Sharon and Phil might not be bothering to keep an eye on him, at least Keanu is taking an interest.

Shirley tries to play peacemaker for Whitney and Halfway, while Keegan has a frightening flashback. Hayley panics when Kat wants to know if she's heard from Alfie, and Max and Rainie's sham marriage is threatening to turn into the real thing.

Coronation Street (ITV)

Weatherfield's menfolk have a nasty habit of straying.

This week, Johnny is horrified that Steve knows about his dalliance with Liz and takes steps to make sure the information doesn't get back to Jenny, while Carla is shocked when Peter suggests there's still a spark between them.

But it's Steve who is really playing with fire. After getting on the wrong side of Abi by talking about her parental skills behind her back, he then feels guilty when he realises how much she loves her twins and how devastated she is on discovering they would rather spend time with their foster parents than with her.

He attempts to comfort her, but the pair end up sharing a kiss - but will it turn into something more after Tracy throws them together by tasking them to find her the perfect engagement ring?

Meanwhile, Gemma's dream of owning of the Rovers is dashed, Billy tells Josh he knows what happened between him and David and Hassan has a stroke at his birthday party.

Emmerdale (ITV)

You'd think life in Emmerdale was already scary enough for kids, but that doesn't stop Bob trying to add some excitement to a Thomas-Hope-King family camping trip by telling the children ghost stories. So, when Angelica, Carl, April, Heath, Cathy and Arthur later hear some strange noises in the woods, they decide to investigate.

What they've heard probably isn't a ghost rattling its chains but Rebecca trying to escape from hers. Sadly, she only succeeds in knocking over her water bottle, leaving her more at risk than ever (especially considering how hot it's been lately).

When Lachlan comes back from his holiday and hears the kids are searching the woods, he rushes out, desperate to get to her first...

Amelia is also playing amateur detective as she tracks down Beth, but poor Sarah can't join in the junior Scooby Doo antics as she's still in hospital. However, there is new hope as Debbie is informed that the hospital has found her a new heart.

Elsewhere, Matty gets the wrong idea when he sees Victoria exchanging flirty banter with David.

Hollyoaks (Channel 4)

Sally is presiding over her very own version of Dragons' Den as she holds an event at the Hutch to find a permanent food supplier for the school. But while Ste is the one doing the pitching, it's Luke who's under scrutiny as Mandy warns him not ruin it by drinking. For once he manages to abstain, but his wife's relief is short-lived when she finds his court summons for the drink-driving incident in the bin.

Even receiving a ban and a fine doesn't stop Luke hitting the bottle again later in the week, much to Mandy's disgust. It also means he's not much use to Ollie, who turns to Buster instead after Imran punches him in the face...

James insists he doesn't want to see Harry, although he might think differently if he knew his visitor has uncovered some fresh evidence, and Mercedes invites the McQueens to her hen party in Magaluf, leading to speculation about the identity of the groom.

Misbah is still refusing to acknowledge Imran's anger problems, Sami apologies for missing Ellie's scan, and Harley returns - with Ron on her trail.

Home and Away (C5)

Near-death experiences, rather understandably, often leave a lasting impression on those who have gone through them, even inspiring them to grab life by the throat.

That certainly seems to be the case with Colby, who awakes from a coma to be told he has malignant hyperthermia - a hereditary condition that could help him find his sister Bella. So almost as soon as he comes round - don't forget, healing times are very swift in Soapland - he's off to hunt her down.

Meanwhile, Robbo is released on bail, on the condition that he stays with Tori and Justin and doesn't venture outside before the trial begins, which proves to be far from easy.

The Astonis argue about Maggie's possible inclusion in the American medical trial before the patient learns that a potential stem cell donor has been found.

Ty worries about returning to school after coming out, Dean dumps Willow and both Hunter and Olivia receive job offers.

Neighbours (C5)

There's a wee spark between Terese and Leo - but could it turn into something more?

Perhaps, especially after Paul blots his copybook once again, prompting her to give him a piece of her mind, and not for the first time - in fact, it's a wonder she has any mind left to give. She is, however, rather more lenient when it comes to Leo - and later he's forced to make an embarrassing admission after she finds something interesting in his paperwork.

Paul, meanwhile, is ordered by Amy to take his mind off his love life by setting up a mentorship scheme for David. He and Terese come together again when they're forced to dump Shane's family from the Face of Lassiter's campaign after the truth about the patriarch's efforts to put Marisa in her place are made public.

Chloe receives devastating news, Sonya suggests that Piper should work for Toadie and Bea thinks she's being followed.
