A PRIDE event will welcome people of all ages and social backgrounds to Darlington today.

LGBT+ organisation Darlington ARQ are hosting Darlington Day-Time Pride at the town’s covered market today, Monday.

The organisation wants to make the event accessible to everyone as it feels certain members of the public miss out on Pride celebrations.

CEO Andi Cull said: “I am delighted to say that we are having a daytime Pride event. Pride has been celebrated for a number of years within the bar and night time LGBT scene in Darlington.

“I feel that an event that can be attended by all people, all ages, all abilities is something that is much needed.”

The organisation was set up to fill a gap in the market following the closure of Gay Advice Darlington and Durham, which shut due to funding cuts.

They are working to tackle inequality in the town and have recently rolled out a scheme aimed at educating companies on LGBT+ culture.

The Pride event is holding information stalls and live music entertainment paid for out of Mr Cull’s own pocket.

A pride march will start outside Darlington Covered Market at 5pm finishing at the Juniper Tree, on Grange Road.
