Garage plan

COUNCILLORS will consider whether a garage can be built at a home in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Plans for a detached double garage, change of use and hardstanding and alterations to walls at Heather Cottage, Snaisgill, Middleton-in-Teesdale, have been resubmitted by Martin Ingall following a previous refusal. Amendments to the design and layout have been made but the application will go before members of Durham County Council’s area planning committee (south and west) after requests from Councillors Richard Bell and Ted Henderson. Six letters of support have also been submitted. Officers will recommend the plans be refused at a meeting in Spennymoor tomorrow.

Film time

THE Upper Weardale Cinema Club shows films at Upper Weardale Town Hall, St John’s Chapel Market Place, every first and third Friday in the month. The first showing at 6pm is for children and families and a second showing, which starts at 7.30pm, 7.45pm or 8pm, is suitable for older children and adults. Everyone attending must be a member, which costs £2 for the first visit and includes a quarterly newsletter. Charge per film is £2.50 for adults and £2 for children.

Church concert

A CONCERT of sacred and secular music will be held at St Andrew’s Church, Spennymoor, on Saturday, from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are £6, or £3 for concessions, which includes drinks and nibbles from Shirley Cooke on 01388-815281 or on the door. Proceeds in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Park proposal

AN application to allow over 55s to reside permanently in holiday chalets at Deneside Lodge Park, Wolsingham, will be considered by Durham County Council’s area planning committee (south and west) when it meets in Spennymoor tomorrow. Mr W Hobson wants to remove the holiday occupation condition at to allow those over 55 to live in their holiday chalets permanently.The application has been put forward for committee consideration by Councillor John Shuttleworth on the basis that there is a need for housing development in Wolsingham. Officers will recommend member refuse permission.
