A FREE concert featuring three decades of pop is taking place on Sunday.

The South Tyneside Festival continues with performances by bands The Fizz, formerly known as Bucks Fizz, Scouting for Girls and Roachford.

The concert is the third in a series of free events at Bents Park in South Shields.

The Fizz is usually made up of original members Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston and Mike Nolan but this weekend, vocalists Zoe Nicholas and Lance Ellington will stand in for Jay as she recovers from surgery.

Famed for their 1980s classics such as Land of Make Believe, If You Can’t Stand the Heat and their Eurovision Song Contest-winning hit Making Your Mind Up, the band are regulars on the festival scene.

90s singer Roachford will also be performing alongside mid noughties band Scouting for Girls, best known for hits like She’s so Lovely, Heartbeat and Elvis Ain’t Dead.

Councillor Alan Kerr, deputy leader of South Tyneside Council, said: "We have three incredible acts lined up for this, our third Sunday concert of the year, and with music from the 80s, 90s and noughties it will be a fantastic day out for all the family.

“Not only will we have the chance to remember the colourful, fun 1980s with The Fizz, we get to enjoy the incredible voice of Roachford who continues to stand the test of time and evolve.

“Add to that Scouting for Girls who our younger visitors will be very familiar with and we have everything in place for a wonderful afternoon of music at Bents Park.”

Gates will open at approximately noon for Priority Plus ticket holders and at approximately 12.45pm for everyone else.
