A DECISION on a planning application for 162 homes in Firthland Road, Pickering, has been deferred by Ryedale District Council at the request of the applicant, Persimmon Homes. A report had recommended refusal.

Guided walk

A FREE guided walk around Richmond to discover more about its military past will leave from the Green Howards Museum, in the Market Place, at 2pm on August 2. The walk is free but donations are appreciated. The walk takes around an hour.

Princess train

BE a princess for a day on the Wensleydale Railway, from August 2 to 23. Hill climb

THE Bainbridge and District Motor Club open class hill climb will take place on , July 25 at Sorrel Sykes Farm, West Burton. Gates open at noon, with a practice at 4pm and the race at 6pm. The race is open to all off-road bikes. Contact Bob Foster on 01969-622331 or 07811-385392.

Vital role

THE York Handmade Brick Company, at Alne, near Easingwold, played a crucial role in the restoration of one of Scotland’s most iconic churches. It provided 12,000 specially-made bricks for St Bride’s Church in East Kilbride.
