A DANCE school in County Durham will hold its biggest show to date this weekend.

Aycliffe Dance Academy, based in Woodham, Newton Aycliffe, is set to hold three performances of This Is Me at Billingham Forum Theatre today and tomorrow.

The school is made up of 175 dancers aged two and upwards who are set to showcase their talents.

Emma Williams, dance principal, said: “We’ve mainly performed at local schools and venues but this is out first time in a proper theatre, with about 650 seats.

“The kids will get to experience performing on a proper stage with all the technical side of it. This is the eighth show so we’ve just got bigger every year.”

The show will feature a mix of dance styles and will include numbers from The Greatest Showman.

There will also be a drama piece about internet safety.

Ms Williams added: “We feel it’s really important to raise awareness for the children we teach and to get their families and parents to talk about it.

“It’s quite a big thing to push. We’ve already tackled bullying and domestic violence in the past.”

Five coaches will take the dancers from their base at the Bethany Centre to the theatre for the shows.

Performances take place at 6pm today and at 2pm and 6pm tomorrow.
