YOUNG people are being given the chance to get their hands on their own personally designed trombone as part of this year’s BRASS Festival in Durham.
As part of the 12th annual event, children are being asked to create their own designs on paper stencils.
One winner from each of the two age groups, five to 11 and 12 to 18, will then have their design printed onto a plastic trombone made by pBone, creators of a range of plastic instruments.
Paul Gudgin, director of the festival which is commissioned by Durham County Council, said: “One of the most important parts of BRASS is to inspire a new generation of brass musicians, getting our young people engaged and interested in music and to give as many people as possible the chance to play an instrument for the first time.”
The template can be downloaded by visiting www.brassfestival.co.uk and entries should be submitted to Community Arts Team, Gala Theatre, Millennium Place, Durham, DH1 1WA or emailed to brassfestival@durham.gov.uk before Sunday, July 22.
