THE MG Car Club Tyne-Tees Centre has organised a motoring event based on two simultaneous road runs across the region.

On Sunday, the 99-mile Prince Bishops Run starts at 10am from Lordstones Country Park near Carlton-in-Cleveland, and the 96-mile St Cuthbert’s Run starts at 10am from the Maritime Centre, in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. Both runs conclude in Palace Green, in front of Durham Cathedral.

It is the 30th anniversary of the Prince Bishops Run, started in 1988 by Tony Wood, then chairman of MGCC Tyne-Tees, who is also taking part in the event. Spectators will be able to see MG sports cars, grand touring and sports saloon cars, plus guests marques, such as Austin Healey.

The lunch stop this year is in Darlington, where the public can see the cars in Horsemarket from about noon until after 1pm – an appropriate point on the route, because the town was once owned by the medieval Prince Bishops.

All cars and crews will aim to arrive in Durham between 2.30pm and 3.15pm.
