THE supermarket that helped make a man a County Durham millionaire has been fitted with a gold ‘playstation’.
National Lottery winner Gary Henry, 57, scooped £4.4m on Lotto in 2009 after buying a lucky ticket from the Spar, on Market Place, in Wolsingham, in Weardale.
Now the corner store has been kitted out with a shiny new playstation for The National Lottery.
Mr Henry, of Bishop Auckland, said: “This store will always have a special place in my heart - after all it is The National Lottery and this local shop which changed my life forever.
“The gold play station is very swanky and I just hope that it brings lots of other people lots of National Lottery luck.
“Winning the lottery has bought me freedom, giving me time to relax and do the things I love, such as cycling. It has also enabled me to help those closest to me.”
According to The National Lottery, 5,000 millionaires have been created since 1994 - with the last 1,000 being made in just 29 months.
In the Darlington post code area, a total of 235 players have banked a big prize including 33 millionaires.
Caroline Embleton, manager of the Spar, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have this amazing gold playstation in the store and I just hope it brings lots of luck to lots of other customers too.”
