A 69-YEAR-OLD man has died after being hit by a car as he crossed a road.
The man was struck by a Skoda Octavia driven by a 28-year-old who has been arrested in relation to the incident, but has since been released under investigation.
The crash happened shortly before 10.15pm on Saturday night on Ormesby Road, in Middlesbrough.
The 69-year-old man had been crossing the road opposite the Ormesby Grange Care Home.
He was taken by ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital, but died shortly after arrival.
Cleveland Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Prior to the collision, the black Skoda had been travelling south on Ormesby Road and police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or who has dash cam footage to get in touch.
“Please contact Sergeant Jon Stokeld of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit via the 101 number, quoting event 94119.”
