IT is all steam ahead as a County Durham railway museum prepares to put on free family-friendly activities for the half term break.
Locomotion, in Shildon, is hosting several events to inspire children and adults alike to get involved in science, technology and engineering.
On May 27 and May 28, the museum will host its annual Meccano Magic event in association with the North East Meccano Society.
Meccano is one of the oldest construction toys in the world. Invented by Frank Hornby in 1898, this system of reusable metal strips, plates and wheels connected with nuts and bolts can be used for creations from simple buildings to hi-tech robotics.
Meccano Magic will feature a wide range of static, mechanised and remote-controlled Meccano models made by the society's members and visitors will also be able to have a go at creating their own models.
From May 29 to May 31, there will also be railway-themed craft sessions and demonstrations from 11am to 3pm daily.
Then on June 2 and June 3, Shildon Model Railway Club’s Annual open weekend exhibition will take place at Locomotion.
The popular exhibition will feature a wide range of model railway layouts and gauges as well as trade stands.
For more information visit locomotion.org.uk or call 01904-685780. Locomotion is open from 10am to 5pm daily and parking and admission are free.
