PARENTS of a baby girl who was stillborn are set to stage their annual fundraiser in her name.

Residents of the Trimdons have helped raise more than £15,000 for charity in memory of Darcie Jane Bowes, daughter of Trimdon Colliery couple Gary and Lisa Bowes, who was stillborn on June 18, 2012.

Every year the parents have marked her birthday with the likes of pram races, a Thai boxing night and a fun day.

This year is no different and on Saturday, June 16, a family-friendly event entitled Darcie Day will be held at Trimdon Colliery recreation park from midday.

Mr Bowes, 45, said: “We want to raise awareness of stillbirth. Everyone in the Trimdons knows all about is but it’s still a taboo subject.”

There will be a football tournament for all, with more than 100 players expected to take part.

Trimdon Colliery Brass Band, a local dance group, singers and a band will perform while an entertainer, bouncy castle, fairground rides, petting corner and face-painting will keep children occupied.

Money raised will go towards North-East charity 4Louis as well as to Trimdon Village youth club, Trimdon Juniors Football Club, Trimdon Colliery Brass Band and bereaved parents Tina Davidson and John Defty’s cuddle cot fund appeal.
