VILLAGES will come together to celebrate past and serving military personnel as part of a national commemoration.

Residents from the Trimdons are invited to attend a traditional street party to observe the UK’s Armed Forces Day, on June 30, which will also reflect on the centenaries of the First World War and the first British women to get the vote.

Organisers are appealing to current and former servicemen and women to come forward for the event at Trimdon Community College (TCC), in Trimdon Village.

Annette Donohue, TCC development manager, said: “This is a way for the community to say thank you for serving personnel and veterans for the sacrifices they’ve made. People fought in the Great War for democracy and freedom and that’s what the Suffragettes did, and what people do today.

“We want them to get in touch so we can involve and honour them on the day. It’s also about awareness and fundraising.”

There will be traditional games and displays from the DLI and Beamish Museum, while the Army Reserve, Royal Military Police Reserves and Hartlepool Sea Cadets will attend.

The event will begin at 1pm following an afternoon tea for armed forces.

Armed forces are encouraged to contact Ms Donohue on 01429-881521.

Alternatively email tccannette@outlook.com or find Trimdon Community College on Facebook.

Anyone who would like to contribute or volunteer on the day is asked to get in touch.
