A BURST water pipe turned the garden of a County Durham home “into Narnia”.

Nina O’Brien photographed her home in Trimdon Village in its frozen state after a pipe burst and temperatures plummeted.

A sea of ice appeared to spread across the garden of the property, on Coronation Terrace, while ice and icicles covered the front door, walls and garden table and chairs.

Though the images were snapped on Sunday, the icy scene remained into the week when it gradually melted away.

Mother-of-one Ms O’Brien said: “It’s been a bit of a nightmare– my neighbour moved out of his house and some sort of overflow pipe was leaking and nobody had contact details for him.

“When the bad snow came a couple of weeks ago it was making a pool in the garden.

“When the smaller storm started at the weekend and the winds took hold it was blowing it over into my house and then there was freezing temperatures.”

Ms O’Brien even called the police for help to trace neighbour while a friend helped stop the leak.

“We had to use the back door,” she added. “We’ve had a few people knock on the door and a lady pulled up to take pictures. I said I was thinking of starting to charge people.”
