STAFF from an opticians are supporting St Teresa’s Hospice as their charity for 2018 as a thank you for the care provided to a staff member and her family.
Liz Austin worked at Specsavers Darlington as a customer service assistant for more than 13 years. In March 2017, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent chemotherapy.
When her condition deteriorated she spent her last few days at the Darlington hospice before losing her battle with cancer in July.
Le-Anne Potter, store supervisor at Specsavers Darlington who was a close friend to Liz, said: “We can’t thank the amazing staff enough as they ensured Liz’s stay was comfortable and her last few hours were as peaceful as possible.
“St Teresa’s Hospice does a truly outstanding job of helping people in their time of need, and it depends on donations and volunteers to enhance the services it provides.”
The store is holding a fundraising quiz night on Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm in The Keys on Skinnergate. Tickets care on sale in store for £3.
