PLANS to demolish a former care home and build rental properties on the site are recommended for approval this week.
Paul Green, of North Star Housing Group, has applied for planning permission from Durham County Council to replace East Green Care Home, in West Auckland, which closed in 2010, with 25 houses.
North Star wants to build eight bungalows and 17 two and three bedroom, two storey houses around a central access road taken off Arnold Street, with 35 parking spaces.
The properties would be available for affordable rent.
Planning officer Amy Williamson will recommend approval of the scheme with a series of conditions, including a payment of £51,425 towards open space provision, when it goes before the area planning committee on Thursday.
