PLANS to relocate an established Sedgefield business to make way for 71 new homes have been recommended for approval.

The outline application for housing at the existing Turners Garage Site, at Salters Lane Industrial Estate, will go before Durham County Council’s planning committee tomorrow (Thursday).

Senior planning officer Laura Eden has recommended the proposal for approval subject to a raft of conditions. Among them is the completion of a legal agreement by applicant Hardwick Properties to provide seven affordable units and contribute £466,448 towards education accommodation, £151,397 to improving off-site open space and recreational provision and £38,740 to improving access to healthcare in the Sedgefield parish.

If approved, the Turners garage, taxi operation and vehicle rescue fleet would be moved to Fishburn, subject to another plan submitted by the applicant.

An indicative layout shows a mix of terraced, semi-detached and detached two, three and four-bedroom units. Access would be from the existing north entrance.
