A SCHOOL enjoyed the sweet taste of success when it won a national baking contest.

Toft Hill Primary School won the The Edu-cake and Cel-a-bake Great Rainbow Bake Off with a Hadrian's Wall themed cake.

The charity Educate and Celebrate, which supports and rewards schools with LGBT+ inclusive values and practices, holds the annual baking competition to promote equality and fairness in educational organisations.

Pupils worked on their recipe and design during afterschool cookery club sessions and came up with a cake representing the charity's values, history and geography to secure a place in the last round.

Lara Turner, from year six, and year five's Joshua Watson represented the school at the finals in London, accompanied by three staff.

After a tense day of competition in the kitchen, they were overjoyed when their colourful Hadrian’s Wall themed creation landed first prize.

Head teacher Janice Stobbs said: "We were very pleased to be invited to London to take part in the Educate and Celebrate cake competition.

"Toft Hill Primary prides itself on being an inclusive school where difference is to be celebrated.

"Winning the competition was an unexpected bonus and one we are very proud of."
