PANCAKE racers braved the snow to go flipping crazy as part of a charity challenge.

Northallerton’s annual pancake race was held in the Applegarth playing fields on Tuesday – a week before Shrove Tuesday to account for the half-term holidays.

Staff from shops and businesses across the town raced each other to the finish line, with pupils from Applegarth School taking part in children’s challenges.

The money raised will be donated to the Northallerton mayor’s charity – Hambleton and Richmondshire Carers’ Centre – which supports unpaid carers aged eight upwards across the districts.

Prizes were awarded to winners of the children’s races and the first man and woman to complete the 50m course – the equivalent distance between the town hall and market cross.

Judges decided on the top flipper, best fancy dress and three-legged winners.

The event was reinstated in 2010 by Lewis and Cooper following calls from businesses and residents.

It is supported by Northallerton and District Round Table, Northallerton Retail and Business Forum, Sam Turner and Sons, Colin Hutson Accounting, Coles Solicitors and Northallerton Town Council.
