A MOTHER who has been living with diabetes for 50 years has been presented with a medal in recognition of her courage in dealing with the condition.
Christine Mordue, 66, from Durham, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 15 and has now been presented with Alan Nabarro medal by Diabetes UK.
The mother-of-two said: “People with diabetes are usually the experts on their own condition and I’ve been lucky to have excellent care throughout my life but understanding my diabetes has been the most important thing.”
Stephen Ryan, from Diabetes UK said: “Christine is an inspiration, and has really shown how taking control of your diabetes can lead to a healthy life. With the right care throughout their lives people like Christine can manage the condition well and reduce the risk of developing complications.”
