NEWCASTLE (4-4-2):
6 Darlow: Did well to save Ayew’s initial header, but almost teed up Bony for a stoppage-time winner as he slid to the ground
8 YEDLIN: Produced a crucial stoppage-time clearance from Bony’s shot and protected the right-hand side of Newcastle’s back four
6 Clark: Should have been closer to Ayew as he met van der Hoorn’s cross, but made some important headed interventions
7 Lascelles: Another impressive showing in front of the watching Gareth Southgate – might an England call-up be imminent?
7 Dummett: Has helped shore up the left-hand side of Newcastle’s defence since returning to the team last month
4 Ritchie: Another below-par showing from a player who is struggling to recapture his best form – his set-pieces were poor once again
4 Shelvey: Didn’t have much of an impact on the pitch, and let himself down with a petulant reaction to being substituted
5 Diame: Covered plenty of ground, but his first touch was found wanting on a number of occasions, especially in the first half
5 Atsu: Wasn’t able to exert a sustained influence on the game as too many of his runs came to nothing
7 Perez: Set up Joselu’s goal with some good work in the area and made an excellent first-half run to tee up Gayle
4 Gayle: Spurned three good chances and is struggling to reproduce the composed finishing that characterised so many of his displays last season
Subs:
7 Joselu (for Gayle, 64): Made the difference as he turned neatly to sweep home an excellent second-half equaliser
Merino (for Shelvey, 82)
(not used): Elliot (gk), Haidara, Manquillo, Hayden, Murphy.
SWANSEA (4-4-2):
Fabianski 7; van der Hoorn 6 (Roberts 64, 5), BARTLEY 8, Mawson 6, Olsson 6; Dyer 6 (Narsingh 85), Ki 6, Clucas 5, Carroll 6; Ayew 7, McBurnie 4 (Bony 70, 5).
Subs (not used): Nordfeldt (gk), Fernandez, Mesa, Fer.
Man Of The Match: DEANDRE YEDLIN – The Newcastle full-back was defensively secure throughout and saved his side a point as he tracked back dutifully to clear Wilfried Bony’s stoppage-time effort.
