A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a woman’s body on Christmas Day.
Emergency services, including the bomb disposal unit, police and firefighters, were called to a home on Tennyson Terrace, North Shields, yesterday at around 1.30pm.
A 41-year-old man, thought to have been known to the woman, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police cordoned off the street for several house while the scene was examined.
The Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal experts were called to help police, but it is not known whether they were needed.
Northumbria Police said a woman’s body was found but she has not yet been publicly identified.
The investigation is continuing and police said the death is being treated as murder.
A force spokesman said: “Following the search of an address on Tennyson Terrace, North Shields, yesterday, police have found the body of a woman at the property.
“One man, aged 41, believed to be known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
“Officers have now launched a full investigation but are not in a position to name the deceased at this time.
“Police remain in the local area and if residents have any concerns they can speak to officers face to face or by contacting the neighbourhood police team on 101.”
