A NEW book prize has been announced with a £5,000 prize available for a Northern writer.
As part of this year’s Northern Writers’ Awards, New Writing North and leading independent publisher And Other Stories and are looking for one unpublished work of fiction to win the inaugural Northern Book Prize.
The winner of the prize will receive £5000, editorial support, and a contract for the book’s worldwide publication by And Other Stories.
It is now open until Thursday, February 1
To be eligible, writers must be based in the North of England.
They may be debut writers or have previously published work, as long as the manuscript they enter is not under contract with a publisher. The organisers are looking for a full-length work of literary fiction, which could be a novel, novella or collection of short stories.
Claire Malcolm, chief executive of New Writing North, said: “We’re pleased to welcome And Other Stories to the North and we’re really excited to be working together on this great opportunity for a fiction writer as part of the Northern Writers’ Awards. We know from running the awards that the North of England contains a real wealth of writing talent. We welcome entries from all writers – whether they are previously published or not –and we can’t wait to start reading!”
