A LORRY driver has been arrested over an accident which claimed the life of a 77-year-old man.
The accident happened on Sunday on the A66 just before 3.30pm near West Layton, North Yorkshire.
"The collision occurred at the A66 junction with Collier Lane and involved a white Renault Premium HGV truck, a silver SEAT Ibiza and a black Nissan Qashqai," said a spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police.
"The driver of the Qashqai, 77-year-old Raymond Parkinson from Hartlepool sadly died at the scene.
"Mr Parkinson’s family have all been informed and are currently being supported by specially trained officers.
"The driver of the HGV, a 33-year-old man from Motherwell, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
