A DRIVER being pursued by police along the A64 in North Yorkshire tried to escape by driving across fields - despite his tyres having been burst by a police stinger device.
Officers with North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group had pursued the driver along the A64 after he failed to stop in Scarborough on Sunday. They brought the man to a halt by deploying a stinger device in the road at Sherburn, but he still attempted to continue his escape.
One of the officers wrote on social media: “It was pursued along the A64 before being stung at Sherburn. With his tyres deflated, the driver then continued in his attempts to escape by driving into some nearby fields.”

The driver was stopped a short time later and arrested for “numerous offences”.
Police found drugs and a large amount of cash in the vehicle.
In custody he failed to cooperate with a drugs test and police established he was wanted by West Yorkshire Police for at least five offences.
He has been charged with dangerous driving, theft of a vehicle, failing to stop and failing to provide a drugs test.
Several other offences remain under investigation. The driver was remanded in custody until he will appear at court.
