A MAN banned from the roads admitted he drove his father to hospital and left to take his shopping home.

Kevin Jacques, of Lusby Crescent, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, was disqualified from driving 13 years ago and was required to complete and extended driving test.

The 34-year-old had legally driven in dad’s car to Asda on August 10 with his insurance policy-holding parent in the Vauxhall Vectra with learner plates on display.

However, Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday that Jacques’ father took ill while shopping and was driven to Bishop Auckland Hospital by his son.

Clive Booth, mitigating, said: “At the hospital, they asked him to move the vehicle away from the main gates – instead of telling them he had no insurance without his dad, he moved the car and he decided to take his partner and the shopping home."

Father-of-four Jacques pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance on Shawbrow View, in Bishop Auckland, and was fined £120 for each offence.

He was given six penalty points and will pay £115 costs.
