A HOME renovation company is on a mission to make people smile by bestowing random acts of kindness on the unsuspecting public.

Every Friday in November, Lucille Bowling, of Bowling Home Improvements, will be leaving small gifts in locations across South Durham as a thank you to customers for their support since the company’s launch earlier this year.

Last week, the mother-of-one was out and about in Wolsingham, Stanhope and Frosterley in Weardale, where she left bouquets of flowers from Woodhalls Greengrocers, a box of chocolates and gift vouchers for local businesses such as Fondant and Apron Strings in Wolsingham.

In the run up to each random act of kindness, Mrs Bowling will leave a series of clues for where the gifts will be left - be it a park bench, phone box or bus stop - on the company’s Facebook page, Bowling Home Improvements.

Although it is partly about brand awareness, Mrs Bowling said she also hoped to brighten people’s days as the nights draw in.

“I’ve always liked the idea of random acts of kindness, as it is such a lovely thing to do,” said the 28-year-old who runs the business with her husband.

“It’s nice to make people smile and I really hope I get to see the reactions of some of the people who find the gifts we leave.

“We decided to start in Weardale because we have done a lot of work in the area so far and this is a nice way of saying thank you to our customers.”
