MORPETH Harrier Terry Wall made it three victories out of four when he won yesterday's New Marske Victorian 10K.

Wall, who won the Raby Castle and Newton Aycliffe 10Ks before losing out to former Great Britain international Brian Rushworth in the Hylton Castle multi-terrain event at Sunderland just over a week ago, made no mistake along the sea front between Marske and Redcar.

He clocked 32 mins 19 secs to beat Billingham Marsh House Harrier Michael Jefferies by 1 min 33 secs, with Marsh House's, Andy Chadfield, a further 19 seconds away in third place.

The women's race was won by York Acorn's Sarah Tunstall, who finished seventh in 36 mins 47 secs, beating Middlesbrough and Cleveland's Carolyn Summersgill by just over two minutes. Loftus veteran Julie Mastrolonardo was third in 39.43.

New Marske Harrier Ricky Stevenson was only three hundredths of a second away from qualifying for the final of the European Junior Championships 1500m in Hengelo, Holland, when he finished fifth in his heat in a time of 3 mins 51.60 secs.

Stevenson, who tops the UK junior rankings with a time of 3:47.25, led at 400m (1:04.16) and 800m (2:07.53) but finished less than half a second behind the winner, Otmane Belhabaze (France), who clocked 3:51.20 before going on to finish fourth in the final, won by Italy's Mario Scapini in 4:01.31.

The British team won a gold and three silver medals at the European Junior Championships in Hengelo.

The gold came in the women's 4x100 metres when 16-year-olds Asha Philip and Ashlee Nelson, gold and bronze 100m medallists at last week's World Youth Championships, joined forces with new European junior 200m champion Hayley Jones and 100m finalist Anike Shand-Whittingham to stop the clock at 44.52 seconds.

It is only the second time British athletes have won the title.

The 4x100m squad began the silver streak, finishing just two-hundredths of a second behind Germany, who won in 39.81 seconds.

Emma Jackson, from Stoke, made all the pace in the women's 800m final but was caught within 30 metres of the line by the world youth champion Mirela Lavric of Romania, who won in a lifetime best of 2mins 2.84secs.
