AN eagle-eyed train driver spotted a problem with the track between Durham and Darlington today.

Services have been delayed or cancelled as a result of the defect being discovered.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11:00, a train driver reported a track defect on the line between Darlington and Durham.

“Network Rail workers attended the site and carried out a temporary repair to the track. Trains are now able to run through the area at a reduced speed and a permanent repair will take place overnight on Saturday.

“There are still residual delays due to this incident and we would like to apologise to anybody who has been affected by this.”
