A MAJOR rescue operation was under way last night after a 15-year-old girl plunged 50 feet down a cliff in County Durham.
The fire and rescue service was called to the cliff near Waldridge House, in Waldridge Road, Waldridge village, near Chester-le-Street, shortly afer 9pm after the alert was raised by the ambulance service.
A fire service rope rescue team was summoned to the area and two senior officers were on hand to oversee the operation.
