A SWIMMING pool in Newton Aycliffe is throwing open its doors for a day of free, family-friendly activities.

Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre will launch its new programme today which includes aqua cycle and aqua jump – putting traditional gym classes into the water.

Aqua cycle includes state-of-the-art bikes submerged while users pedal against the resistance of the water, while aqua jump uses underwater trampolines to improve strength, conditioning and core stability.

Class taster sessions will take place between 3pm and 4pm, with each lasting around 15 minutes.

Under 5s can join in with a Ready, Sett, Splash session in the small pool between 2pm and 3pm while children over eight can play on the inflatables in the large pool.

Places for the aqua classes and under-five’s session are limited and should be booked by calling 03000 266 446.

Tours of the gym will take place every hour between 11am and 3pm.

The library will also hold a drop-in session from 11am to 12.30pm where children can design their own swimming costume - with the chance to win a free family swim pass and a goodie bag.

Residents are also being offered 25 per cent off an annual swim membership when they join at their local leisure centre.
