BROADCASTING jobs are under threat in an operator restructure, The Northern Echo understands.

Made Television has undergone a shake-up, which could see some staff leave.

The Echo was yesterday (Tuesday, October 31) made aware that some posts are at risk in the network’s Made in Teesside and Made in Tyne and Wear ventures.

A spokeswoman confirmed a restructure has taken place, revealing bosses are talking to an unspecified number of staff about their futures.

She said: “Made Television is planning some exciting new content in the coming months following a re-organisation of our production model.

“The review has involved a restructure; however, we are working closely with those affected to minimise the impact and redeploying where at all possible.

“More information on the new programming will be available shortly.”

The network’s Teesside and Tyne and Wear channels, which broadcast across Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media, are complemented by sister operations in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Cardiff and North Wales.

The Echo understands the changes will not affect Made Television’s ability to retain a local presence.

Speaking at the launch of Made in Teesside in March, Jamie Conway, chief executive, said he was delighted to see the operator grow in the region.

He added: “Our commitment to provide local content that reflects the lives and aspirations of our viewers has been very successful to date and we will be replicating this for viewers in Teesside.

“We are also committed to providing opportunities for local people to get involved in what we do and we’re looking forward to working with the local community to present a great new channel.”

He said since launching, Made Television had grown revenues by 100 per cent a year, adding the Made in Tyne and Wear channel had won a Royal Television Society award for its “significant mark on the television and creative industries sector over the past 12 months.”

The channel was also applauded for its role in developing new talent in the region.
