A FUN day at Redcar Racecourse hopes to survive the inclement weather that has finished off so many events.

Tomorrow's Family Fun Day, will have a variety of activities, from fairground rides and inflatables to a stilt-walking clown, a parade of hounds from Cleveland Hunt and a full racing card.

The track has suffered a few water-logging problems, so the horses will be spared the problems of running the bends.

Racecourse chief executive Neil Etherington said: "The whole of the racing industry has been affected by the weather and we're certainly no exception. The statistics are simply incredible. In the last 30 days, we've had more than ten inches of rain and, so far as we can ascertain, that's the highest in living memory for this time of the year.

"All in all, the course has held up pretty well, but because we have some patches of ground badly affected on the back straight, we've taken the decision to not run races on the round course on Sunday."

* Race organisers hope the weather brightens up for the Summer Weekend meeting, on August 11 and 12, which includes a charity day in support of Macmillan Cancer Relief, on the Sunday.
